California, Here We Come!

California, Here We Come! - May 27, 2011

This was the 13th traveling day of 26 traveling days on our trip. Weatherwise, we have not seen a drop of rain since we left home on May 9.

We were awake early this morning and kept moving until breakfast. By breakfast I had several of the areas in the trailer secured for moving. But at breakfast we both sat and enjoyed the meal and the conversation.

We would have been ready to pull out by 8:30 but our neighbor-for-the-night from VA appeared and he liked to talk. It wasn't too much past 8:30 that we left.

We stopped for gas and a rest area on our very short trip to CA. Then we crossed over the Arizona/California State line and the MST/PDST line in the middle of the bridge over the Colorado River sometime Friday morning. Soon afterward we came upon signs that told us that there was an "Inspection Station. All Vehicles Must Stop. 1/2 mile" The traffic was divided into two lines: All Trucks and Everyone Else. When we reached the "Inspector" we were spoken to this time.
"Where ya coming from?"
"Pennsylvania."
"Are you carrying any fruits or vegetables?"
"Carrots and Celery."
"Any citrus?"
"No."
"Okay. Go ahead."


We moved on happy that that was all there was to it. We are about 2 miles into the state but we are in California!. Tomorrow, I think, we are going looking for a geocache so that we can add that to our list of states in which we found caches.

I think it was a little after noon that we arrived at the road that would have taken us very easily and shortly back to the RV Park but "The Man" couldn't find the road. So "he" took us almost a mile down the road so he could take us in a circle to the Park. "He" did the same thing tonight but it was dark so we missed the signs that would have taken us right to the Park within a half mile instead of about 3 miles round trip.

This place is beautiful. The host and hostess come out to greet you in your vehicle and escort you to your site. You are registered at your site. This is the place that takes payment in cash or check only and passes the savings on to the RVer. Each site is seperated from the next one with a 6' high flower hedge. Each site has a patio and chairs are available to borrow if you wish. The border of the Park is made of palm trees which are lighted with flood lights at night.

There is a wonderful pool that I would love to go in tonight. The woman using the pool late this afternoon said that it is never closed. We'll see. I still have to go to the pool area to use the bathroom before I go to bed. We have a thermometer that we have with us when we travel. We have it so that we will know how uncomfortable we are. :o) This afternoon it read 101 degrees! This is Needles CA and we will be here until Tuesday! The hostess says it is supposed to be hot today and tomorrow and on Sunday and Monday the temps will be in the the mid 80s.

I will be happy for a cool down. It was a really hot job to do all of the laundry today. I had a hard time working with the laundry and the washers and dryers. We brought some of the clothes back to the trailer to fold.

Tonight we headed off to Bullhead AZ to find the church for Sunday. We are hoping that there will be a restaurant available for breakfast afterward.

We arrived back at the Park too late to go swimming (?). But the trailer had to be cleaned up, some clothes organized and clothes put up into the overbed cabinets. Now we are back to almost normal.

There is a dishpan full of dishes waiting for tomorrow morning. It was just too hot to do them with all of the laundry. Tom has to do some shopping for the sewer line equipment and I think we are going to try to get at least on caches in Needles. Tom says there are a lot of them.
